Inspirational Artist - Nikko Barber

My respected lecturer just paid us a visit today and one of the student asked him a question, which I guess for every artist and illustrator at some point of their life will ask the very same question 'How do you find your style?'

When come to a style that is going to distinct you from the rest of the world, there will never be a written instruction on how to define and where to find your own niche. The possibilities is endless. It can be the technique you're using, the unique point of view you look into a ordinary subject, or perhaps something that comes from your heart. As for me, 'personal style' comes when you have imprint 'yourself' into your piece of artwork, especially your thoughts, your emotions and the way you see the world. People will feel your existence within the artwork itself.

Inspirational Artist - Leanne Ellis

Girls drawn by Leanne Ellis, an illustrator who lives in South Wales, tell their stories through the captivating look of their eyes and wistful smiles. Her artworks portray the softness and delicate of her girls and around the world. I love how gentle is her pencil strokes along with the soft pastel colour palettes. They reminded the sweetness from the old world :)

Inspirations - GoGoSnap

Starting the month of October, I'm trying something different and will be introducing some inspirational artists along with other artworks from illustrators.

This week I'm looking into vintage inspired business cards, calling cards, wedding invitations created by GoGoSnap. Her works has merged her passion of design and enthusiasm of collecting vintage items. I've shared a few of my favourites here but definitely she has much more at her etsy shop and you're welcome to pop by too! I always enjoy the vintage objects and they seems like telling stories from different period of time :) Lovely and inspiring!

Four Little Whimsies - illustrations

A new series of illustration for my whimsical shop featuring little rabbit greeting the butterfly, the all so wonderful little fox, adorable squirrel that loves sweet nut, and whimsical owl that always play with ribbon.

New Print Size / Busy Week

It has been a crazy week working full time during the day and continue my illustrations during the night. I think I'm getting a little exhausted that I almost dozed off typing this post so I just make it short and sweet :)

I have added new print size of 11 x 14" to my shop and they are available for both limited edition and open edition of my illustrations. You can pick any of your favourite art from here and here. However, these are prints to order upon purchase so they might take 2-4 days before ready to ship :) Feel free to contact me if you have any further enquiries.

I have been working on few personal projects and some art prints for Whimsy Whimsical Paper Goods. Most likely they can be ready by next week :)

I really need to off to bed now as my head starts to swing from left to right and back to front.

Inspirational Artist - Alberto Cerriteno

Artist from Mexico, Alberto Cerriteño has a very distinctive style by managing multiple layer of patterns and shapes together with vintage, organic colour palettes to form a richer texture. His monster and animals are fun and sweet which attracts not only the children, but adult like me as well =p

Month of October - My illustrations, My goals, My Etsy

The month of October marks my 5th month of joining Etsy. Looking back, my journey as an illustrator is relatively short yet every moment and every drawing that I've created, I'm feeling closer to myself. In fact, joining etsy was one of the best decisions I've ever made :) It motivates me to keep drawing and I've even set a goal to have new illustration every week! Yet, the progress of that goal is slowing down as there are some other important commitments at the moment...

My new full time job has just started last week and I need to limit my time in creating or illustrating. Even so, I take it as an opportunity to allow myself to put more thoughts into the concepts and detailing of the illustrations =p
Another thing, my 'Birds of a Feather' series has completed with total 9 illustrations *hurray ♥* and it is time to start something new. I have some ideas for the new series but I shall keep them as a surprise =p

Same as last month, I'm happy with my small set of goal which is not going to stress me out:

Just had a new goal game from CB's blog and here's mine!
My goals before 2011
1. To list 50 items with well mixture of prints and merchandises
2. To double up the sales that I'm having right now (fingers crossed, woo~)
3. To start and finish the new series of illustrations
4. Happy smile in any situation


This is going to be fun!!
